PBCO is proud to present the New Ig Dose Calculator released June 30, 2021.

The new calculator, which matches the one embedded in the Blood Product Request Portal (BPRP), includes the following upgrades and enhancements:

  • - Option to accommodate a broader range of dosages: 0.1 to 5.0 g/kg;
  • - An SCIg specific dose calculator with output in grams/week;
  • - Ability to select Adult, Child or Pregnant as patient type; and
  • - A Dose by Day calculator.

The calculator should not replace sound clinical judgment concerning a patient's unique situation, the aim being to arrive at the lowest possible dose while maintaining clinical efficacy.

TMS IVIG Request Process

Intravenous Immune Globulin (IVIG) is an expensive product and is a limited resource. It is prepared by several commercial manufacturers who use plasma derived from donors to produce IVIG.

The BC Provincial Blood Coordinating Office (PBCO) operates an IVIG Utilization Management Program to ensure that enough IVIG is available for patients likely to benefit from the treatment.  The program incorporates the BC Ministry of Health Policy on Health Authority Immune Globulin Utilization Management Directives.  All requests for IVIG use are screened in hospital Transfusion Medicine Services to make sure that IVIG is used in accordance with the BC IVIG Utilization Management Program Recommendations.

For Adult Rheumatology patient IVIG requests, the Transfusion Medicine Services forwards these to the BC Adult Rheumatology IVIG Screening Program.

For Neuromuscular Neurology patients whose conditions are not on the approved IVG Utilization Management Guidelines, these are forwarded to the IVIG Neuromuscular Neurology Screening Program.

TMS IVIG Request Process

The Blood Product Request Portal (BPRP) is a web-based application designed by the BC Provincial Blood Coordinating Office (PBCO) to support health authorities across the province in managing IVIg and SCIg requests, screening and utilization.

Since September 2020, BPRP replaced the IVIG Request Module that was implemented in 2008 to support the BC IVIG Rheumatology as well as the BC IVIG Neuromuscular Neurology provincial programs.
