The Safe Transfusion Practice course is a Provincial resource available for registration through the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA) LearningHub

Using an easy to use, self-paced e-learning platform, learners can complete modules and quizzes to assess their understanding of basic blood administration practices.

Examples of topics include:

•   Informed consent                                     

•   Patient and sample identification

•   Initiation of blood administration

•   Transfusion reaction management 

* Please note: the video content is intended for clinical transfusion practices in adult patients and may not pertain to pediatric and neonatal patients. Please refer to your site or health authority specific policies and procedures for these patient populations.

Video transcripts are available as an additional resource and a course certificate is granted for those who complete the course and pass the quiz. The course name is "Safe Transfusion Practice E-Learning Course". Please visit the LearningHub for additional course details.

In collaboration with the Nursing Resource Group (NRG), the BC Provincial Blood Coordinating Office (PBCO) is pleased to announce that a new and improved version of this course is under development, aimed for completion in 2021.
